aRadyoloji AD, bÜroloji AD,Gülhane Askeri Tıp Akademisi,Ankara Urinoma is defined as a collection formed by urine extravasation into the tissues outside the urinary tract. Urinoma is generally formed by traumatic or iatrogenic causes; however, it rarely occurs spontaneously. Urinoma, which essentially has been misnamed as "spontaneous" results most frequently from ureteral stones and tumoral obstructions. In the literature, there are a few anectodal reports on spontaneous urinoma formation due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). However, none of them mentioned acute urinary retention just before urinoma formation. From this aspect, our case is the first and the single among the reported cases of spontaneous urinoma due to BPH in the English literature. In this article, we presented the findings of a case of symptomatic spontaneous urinoma that localized in the retroperitoneum and pleural space, which resulted from acute urinary retention and discussed these findings according to the current literature. Keywords: Urinoma; rupture, spontaneous; prostatic hyperplasiaxTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2008, 28:572-575
